Parallel to the exhibition The Volcano Manifesto by Cauleen Smith, Kestner Gesellschaft invites participants to a weekly reading group every Thursday from 5 to 6 pm in the artist’s Reading- and Listening-Room.

During the last session, Cauleen Smith’s Volcano Manifesto was read to completion. This week, the Kestner Reading Group begins discussing The Dawn of Everything. A New History of Humanity by David Graeber and David Wengrow.

The upcoming sessions will focus on selected chapters from the book, which rethinks the emergence of human societies. Anthropologist David Graeber and archaeologist David Wengrow present a comprehensive reinterpretation of human history and open up new perspectives on how the beginnings of civilization can be connected to questions about the future. The shared reading serves as a starting point for discussions that further explore the social and political questions raised in Cauleen Smith’s current exhibition.

No prior knowledge is required. The texts will be provided on site in German, read together, and subsequently discussed in an open conversation.

Admission: exhibition admission

Registration required by 12 noon on the day of the event: empfang@kestnergesellschaft.de
