The Kestner Gesellschaft is pleased to announce the publication of the artist's book Jack O'Brien: Cue the Cue – on the occasion of the eponymous first major solo exhibition by the British artist, on view at the Kestner Gesellschaft from 26 April to 20 July 2025, and curated by Alexander Wilmschen.

The artist's book is also the first comprehensive monograph on Jack O'Brien, created in close collaboration with him, and documents his practice from 2021 to 2025. O'Brien explores themes such as staging, visibility, queer identity, and the circular dynamics between consumption, body, and performance.

As a conceptual artist's book, the publication stands in direct relation to the magazine collages of the exhibition – a torn cover, perforated pages, and a shoelace sealed under cellophane transform it into a sculptural gesture in its own right.

Coffee and croissants will also be served at the release at the Kestner Gesellschaft, Goseriede 11, 30159 Hannover.

Our sincere thanks go to Jack O'Brien, the authors Juliette Desorgues, Kristian Vistrup Madsen, and Jeppe Ugelvig (interview), Bierke Verlag, graphic designer Dan Solbach, the galleries Capitain Petzel, Galerie Gisela Capitain, Ginny on Frederick, and Matthew Brown, as well as the supporters of the exhibition: the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture, the Förderkreis Kestner Gesellschaft, NORD/LB, and the Stiftung Niedersachsen.
