Artist Talk with Karimah Ashadu

Shortly before her exhibition Crystalline closes, Karimah Ashadu talks with Curator Alexander Wilmschen about the show at the Kestner Gesellschaft and her way of working: about the making of her new film WAVES (2026) at a car wash on the edge of Lagos, about the men she films, and about the new photographs and the sculpture Auric Field.

Since the early 2010s, Ashadu has turned her gaze toward the informal economies of Nigeria, asking how labor, masculinity, and the dream of a self-determined life are bound together.

Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to mingle over drinks and pastries from Bäcker Göing.
