Min Yoon
A Pronoun of B
Aug. 29 - Nov. 15, 2026
In the summer and fall of 2026, the Kestner Gesellschaft presents A Pronoun of B, the first comprehensive solo exhibition by Korean artist Min Yoon. In installations, sculptures and drawings, Yoon explores the conditions of artistic production against the backdrop of his own origins. The title A Pronoun of B forms a poetic and conceptual starting point for reflections on language, identity and space – themes that resonate not only with Yoon's personal biography, but also with overarching global issues of migration, cultural hybridity and social belonging. He refers to the etymological origin of the letter “B”, which emerged from phoenician script and symbolises “house” or “interior space”. Building on this, Min Yoon examines in two expansive, site-specific installations for the Kestner Gesellschaft the complexity of the concept of ‘home’– both as a private sanctuary and as a collective, social institution. At the same time, he introduces the motif of measurement as a recurring element: the measurement of space, time and social constructions.
What does a “home” mean today? Is it a place of protection and belonging, a container for memories and family, or an economic asset? And how do these meanings shift in the context of migration, displacement and globalised urban life?
The exhibition features his painting series Decorated Banned Children Books. The series draws on the artist’s collection of banned children's books from schools in South Korea and the United States and explores the social and conceptual dimensions of censorship.
Min Yoon (b. 1986, lives in Vienna) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 2011 to 2018. Yoon has had solo exhibitions at Galerie Francesca Pia, Zurich (2024); Galerie Lars Friedrich, Berlin (2023) and Neuer Essener Kunstverein (2021). His work was recently included in group exhibitions at the Art Sonje Center, Seoul, and the Kunsthalle Wien in spring 2026. Previous exhibitions include presentations at the Secession, Vienna (2024), and the Austrian Federal Chancellery, Vienna (2023), among others. His works are in public collections, including the Art Sonje Centre, Seoul; mumok (Museum of Modern Art Ludwig Foundation Vienna) and the Vienna Museum.
