PODIUM for Jean-François Laporte

Following a workshop with the Cassidy/Williamson composition class at the Hanover University of Music in November 2023, Canadian composer and sound artist Jean-François Laporte is now returning to Hanover in May 2024 to present the students' newly composed works for him and his Babel Table to the public for the first time in a concert at the Kestner Gesellschaft.

Jean-François Laporte will play new works from the HMTMH composition class on his self-constructed Babel Table instrument. He has been pursuing a hybrid approach as an artist since the mid-1990s, combining sound art, music composition, performance, interpretation, installation, improvisation and digital art.

Laporte is the founder, artistic director and general director of Productions Totem contemporain, for which numerous composers have written works. He himself has composed more than sixty works that have been premiered and performed both at home and abroad. Jean-François Laporte and his works have been awarded numerous prizes. He also develops and builds new musical instruments, which he integrates into his works and also into his installations.

In collaboration with the Incontri - Institute for New Music at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media.
