REAL DANCE FESTIVAL 2025
TRANSEPT by Boris Charmatz & César Vayssié
Film
Based on his first solo work SOMNOLE (2021), Boris Charmatz created the film work TRANSEPT, shot in the Saint-Eustache church in Paris. He dances and whistles in the Gothic basilica, which seems to respond with its stone architecture, sacredness, and echoing sound. Charmatz, not a believer, has been working, designing, and dancing in churches for some time, partly because dance was forbidden in churches for centuries. He names his work after the location, the transept, the origin of which refers to a transgression and a conclusion. Finally, he relates to the filming of dance, which he has been producing for over 20 years: 'Filming dance means completing it and going beyond it, doesn't it?'
