Public Reading

The Can Arkadaş association for intercultural education, training, culture and sport in Hanover is organising a poetry reading by Şükrü Erbaş in Turkish at the Kestner Gesellschaft.

Şükrü Erbaş was born in 1953 in Yozgat, Turkey. He is a Turkish poet and essayist. He studied social sciences at the Gazi Institute of Education and published his first poem in 1978. From 1972 to 1998, he worked at the Turkish Grain Board (TMO) and was involved in literary magazines and associations.

His poetry is characterised by clear language and profound themes such as nature, time and human relationships. His best-known works include Küçük Acılar (1984), Bütün Mevsimler Güz (1994) and Kuş Uçar Kanat Ağlar (2018). He has received numerous prizes, including the Ceyhun Atuf Kansu Prize (1987) and the Behçet Necatigil Poetry Prize (2018). His works have been translated into several languages, gaining him international recognition.

The author will read from his latest work Yarasaların avlusunda, among others.
