Schöner Gigolo, armer Gigolo – Kestner Cinémathèque
Film night with Marlene Dietrich

Beautiful Gigolo, Poor Gigolo is a 1978 German film by British actor and director David Hemmings. In this social drama set in the Weimar Republic, David Bowie slogs through 1920s Berlin as the gigolo and "constant companion" of Baroness von Semering (Marlene Dietrich).
The film impresses with its glamorous, melancholy wintry atmosphere as well as its array of stars including Kim Novak, Sidney Rome, Curd Jürgens, Maria Schell and Erika Pluhar. The last appearance of the 77-year-old film diva Marlene Dietrich, in which she sings the hit song of the time "Just a Gigolo" in a broken voice, made the film a secret cult.
