John Luther Adams and Jon Rose: Sound|Land|Scapes

Lecture by Prof. Dr. Bernd Herzogenrath

In his lecture, Prof. Dr. Bernd Herzogenrath (American Studies, Goethe University Frankfurt) will present the soundscapes of John Luther Adams (USA) and Jon Rose (Australia) - landscapes that “sound,” sounds "that are landscapes themselves," as well as soundscapes that try to undermine the "territorial posturing" of national borders. The subsequent conversation will be moderated by Julia Meier and will refer to Wilson Harris’s phrase, "The Music of Living Landscapes", the title which Mathieu Kleyebe Abonnenc’s exhibition has adapted.

Bernd Herzogenrath is a professor of American literature and culture at Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. He is the author and editor of several books on theory, American literature, film, and contemporary music. He is also the principal editor (with Patricia Pisters) of the thinking|media series of books in the philosophy of media, published by Bloomsbury.
