Panel discussion as part of Hannah Arendt Days 2022

"Escape from Oppression and Repression: Culture and Science in Authoritarian Systems"
Welcome: Dr. Julia Meier, Kestner Gesellschaft
Moderator: Dr. Ulrich Kühn, Cultural Journalist
The 25th HANNAH ARENDT DAYS are under the title: "Uncontrolled Power: About the Trend Towards Autocracy ." A very current topic, since, according to the results of a study by the Bertelsmann Foundation, for the first time in history, more states in the world are governed autocratically instead of democratically. Are the advantages of liberal democracies strong enough to survive the competition of the systems?
On October 12th, the HAD will be guests at the Kestner Gesellschaft and discuss the role of culture and science in authoritarian states.
Panelists:
Thorsten Benner, Director of the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi), Berlin
Prof. Olga Shparaga, Minsk/Vienna
Dr. Daniel Gad, cultural policy researcher and Managing Director of the UNESCO Chair in Cultural Policy for the Arts in Development at the University of Hildesheim
